Arsenal and Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny tests positive for coronavirus while on international duty

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has tested positive for coronavirus while away with Egypt, days after international teammate and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, tested positive.

Elneny has been with the Egyptian team preparing for a must win clash in the AFCON qualifier on Tuesday, but now he has contracted the disease, he will need to enter a period of self-isolation.

El Neny played against Togo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday but will now miss the return leg.

His agent Alan Nazmy posted on Twitter Monday evening : “Elneny Positive Cov19 get well soon.”

The news means Elneny will miss Arsenal’s trip to Leeds on Sunday, as well as their Europa League clash at Molde next week.
